The Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention (Consortium) was created by the Colorado Governor’s Office in 2013 to establish a coordinated statewide response to this major public health problem. The mission of the Consortium is to reduce the misuse of prescription drugs in the State of Colorado through improvements in education, public outreach, research, safe disposal, and treatment.

The Consortium and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment launched a safe disposal program in 2016. Through 2024, we have collected more than 408,975 pounds of expired and unused medication. We also set a new record in 2024, collecting more than 68,810 pounds.

In 2023 and 2024, the creative assets and community resources were refreshed with a new look focused on protecting the environment and young ones of all species. Organizations can download and use these assets.
